I am a researcher in Statistics, currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health mentored by Dr. Vadim Zipunnikov.

My research focuses on functional data analyses and the development of models that can handle large and complex datasets. Some of my other research interests extend to distributional data analysis, high-dimensional statistical methods, and nonparametric techniques. As a methodological statistician, I am dedicated to addressing a diverse range of problems that are significant in various fields, particularly neuroimaging, digital health technologies, and other related health sciences.

I received my PhD degree in Statistics from Michigan State University (MSU) under the supervision of Dr. Pingshou Zhong and Dr. Tapabrata (Taps) Maiti. In my dissertation titled Novel Methods for Functional Data Analysis with Applications to Neuroimaging Studies, I studied estimation problems for semi-parametric functional regression and developed statistical methodologies in functional data analysis for complex-structured neuroimaging data. Additionally, I worked with Dr. Alla Sikorskii as a research assistant at MSU’s College of Nursing, where I gained valuable experience working with real data on cancer patients and their caregivers. During my doctoral training, I also completed internships that allowed me to work with national labs and participate in collaborative research at various academic institutions. Prior to these, I completed Bachelor of Science with Honors (B.Sc. (H)) from Presidency University, Kolkata, India and Master of Statistics (M.Stat.) from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).

In addition to my research pursuits, I have a keen interest in the field of teaching. I have had the privilege of serving as a tutor and instructor at MSU for over four years. My teaching philosophy is informed by my personal experiences as a student and my observations of my own students. Through my experience, I have come to appreciate the importance of recognizing and accommodating diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, providing a wealth of illustrative examples, engaging with students to address their concerns, and above all, cultivating an environment that is inclusive and accessible to all learners. I am enthusiastic about pursuing a career that allows me to continue both my research and teaching endeavors.

As for my personal background, I grew up in Kolkata, in the state of West Bengal, India in a Bengali family. When I am not working, I like to travel. In my free time, I usually experiment with cooking, especially Indian and Chinese food, and try out new restaurants! I keep on trying new things from time to time, from painting to photography, from writing poetry to reading about history.
